Hebei travel guide
Hebei is a populous northern province that wraps around Beijing and Tianjin, holding the most historically layered landscapes in North China. The province combines the imperial Great Wall at Shanhaiguan, the Qing-dynasty Mountain Resort and Outer Temples at Chengde, the Xibaipo revolutionary site near Shijiazhuang, the Bashang Grassland and Chongli ski resorts north of Zhangjiakou, the Bohai bay beach at Beidaihe, and the Taihang mountain gorges along the western border. Most routes combine 2-3 of these - a classic Chengde + Shanhaiguan heritage loop, a Zhangjiakou ski or grassland weekend, or a Beidaihe summer beach escape.

Cuisine overview
Hebei cuisine draws on its position around Beijing and the North China plain: the Jingji official-cooking tradition meets grassland lamb, Bohai seafood, and Taihang mountain produce. Provincial signatures include donkey burger (lvrou huoshao, both Baoding and Hejian versions), Hebei-style beef lamian, Jin-style smoked meat, Baoding Baiyunzhang buns, Tangshan chess-piece sesame cakes and honey candy, Chengde Eight Great Bowls Manchu banquet, the Bashang whole-roasted lamb and oat-flour dishes of Zhangjiakou, and fresh carp and steamed crabs of Baiyangdian. Northern Chinese street food is strong in every city: Shijiazhuang's night markets, Baoding's snack streets, and Tangshan Wanda's late-night stalls all cluster regional specialties.
